AREITO Project
AREITO Cultural Association was founded in Brussels, Belgium in the mid 90S to promote sociocultural activities such as music and dance from Latin America to European public. We have been offering dance and music workshops in different levels for all publics in the last two decades with great success.
What's an AREITO ?
According to the Real Academia de la Lengua Española "AREITO" is a Taino word - native Indians from the Caribbean - that means celebration with music, dance and chants or poems. Native Tainos of all ages used to get together to dance, sing and play music.
Is AREITO word used nowadays ?
We can find the word AREITO mostly referred to music and dance projects. There is a Folk Dance company called AREYTO in Puerto Rico; An album called AREITO from Juan Luis Guerra from 1992 and a record company founded in 1964 called AREITO in Cuba. We can find as well a good number of small cultural associations, bars and restaurants, music bands and dance groups called AREITO all over the hispanic Caribbean countries, Central America and USA.
Any AREITO in Europe?
Not many. Our cultural association in Brussels seems to be the only one in Europe. Association Culturelle Areito ASBL - non profit organization- was officially founded in 1995 in Brussels and registered as a cultural association with a small business number registration. .
